Question Mark What is the English as a Second Language Progra?
The English as a Second Language program is specially designed for students whose first language is not English. The program offers a sequence of college credit courses which help students improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. After successfully completing the program, students are eligible to enroll in English 100, College Level Writing, which is required for entrance to most universities.
Question Mark What if I don't feel that I'm ready for college yet?
If you are looking for basic classes in English as a Second Language, visit our School of Continuing Education (SCE) website. The English as a Second Language program at the SCE hosts noncredit classes that focus on life skills and help you prepare for college. These ESL classes will also help you acquire a high school diploma, United States citizenship, and English skills for the workplace.
Question Mark How do I get into Fullerton College?
Detailed information regarding admissions and registration procedures is published in the fall, spring, and summer class schedules. You can go to our Fullerton College Admissions and Records web page to find out how to obtain an application, college catalog, or class schedule by mail or in our college bookstore. You may apply online by going to the Fullerton College Online Application web page and following all instructions. If you are an international student, you may go to the International Student Center page and download an international student application or apply online.
Question Mark My cousin doesn't live in the United States, but he would like to attend Fullerton College. What should I tell him to do?
You need to write or call the college and request an International Student Application packet which includes information about the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), required by all international students, and an application for admission on an F-1 student visa. (International students now in the United States must have a valid Form I-201D or Form I-94 to include with the application.) Or you can go to our Fullerton College Admissions and Records web page to find out how to obtain an application, college catalog, or class schedule by mail or in our college bookstore. Question Mark Can I start taking classes right away?

School of Continuing Education (SCE)
If you would like to improve the Basic Skills of English in your daily life, or if you would like to better prepare yourself for college, you can take classes at one of our School of Continuing Education sites: Wilshire Center, Cypress College, or other offsite locations. New students may register on a first-come, first-served basis. You can enroll at our Wilshire Center on a Monday or Thursday from 8-12 noon or 5-9pm. Students will be admitted as space is available.

Fullerton College
If you feel that you are ready to attend college, you must first apply to the college and then register during the designated registration period, the dates for which you will find in the current class schedule. We offer a full schedule of English as a Second Language classes in the fall and spring semesters, and only selected classes in the summer session. There are currently no English as a Second Language classes offered during the winter intersession. You can look at the current class schedule by going to our Fullerton College Class Schedules web page and then clicking on the specific class schedule you wish to see. Question Mark How long is a semester?
A semester (full term) is approximately 17 weeks in length. You must attend the full 17 weeks as part of the qualification for a passing grade. Some of our courses are offered in a short term, 8-9 weeks long. English as a Second Language summer session courses are 5-6 weeks long.
Question Mark How do I know which English as a Second Language course to take?
It is best to take the English as a Second Language placement test, and then with the results of the test, a counselor can help place you in the right class. We have found that the test, designed especially for second language learners, is very helpful in predicting your success. Starting in the right class gives you a strong foundation and helps you make faster progress.
Question Mark Where can I take the placement test for non-native students?
You need to make an appointment to take the test. You can either call 992-7510 or go to the Counseling Counter in the Student Services Building, 2022, on the second floor. When you get the results, be sure to see a counselor to help you select the right class.
Question Mark What can I do if I want to start improving my English listening and speaking skills right away?
You can enroll in our non-credit Adult Education classes which emphasize listening, speaking, citizenship, and job skills. You can obtain information by calling the Wilshire Adult Education office at 714-526-8258.
Question Mark What is the cost to attend Fullerton College?
The cost for California residents is $26 per unit. For non-resident students of California, the cost is $151 per unit, PLUS an enrollment fee of $26 per unit. For non-US citizens, the cost is $171 per unit, PLUS an enrollment fee of $26 per unit. 12 units is considered full time; ESL classes range from 2-5 units. In addition, all students are required to pay a $13 health fee. Parking permits must be purchased to park on campus. The cost is $35 per semester.
